What is Gestalt Psychotherapy?
Gestalt is a German word meaning “whole” or “pattern.” At its core, Gestalt therapy believes that all human experience is a meaningful whole, and that dysfunction arises when parts of your experience (thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations) are disconnected or repressed.
Instead of just talking about the past, I focus on the “here and now.” By bringing full attention to your present moment experience—what you feel, what your body is doing, and how you are relating to me—I can reveal how past, unresolved issues are impacting your life today.

Key Principles: Awareness and Responsibility
Gestalt therapy works through two main principles:
Awareness: I explore how you are doing what you are doing, not just why. By increasing your moment-to-moment awareness, you gain the power to make conscious choices rather than repeating old, unhelpful patterns of behaviour.
Responsibility: As you become more aware, you take ownership of your feelings and actions. This doesn’t mean blaming yourself, but recognising your power to choose your response and shape your future.
